Basic Tips for a Beautiful Flower Garden

Knowing the proper way to care for your flower garden can be the difference between a beautiful swath of flowers that everyone makes glowing comments on or a so-so garden that seems on the verge of dying all the time. As with all things learning the how to care for your garden can take time , but if you follow some of these basic tips you will be well on your way to having beautiful blooms all summer long.

1. Do you have the essentials covered? Just like any other plant, flowers are living growing organisms and without the proper necessities they will wither and die. They need a consistent water supply, varying amounts of sunlight depending on the plant, and rich fertile soil. The more pampered and cared for they are the better they will respond. During times of intense heat and little rain be sure to water more often.

When planting you new flowers it is important to follow the directions on the packaging they came in. Bulbs need to be planted at the correct depth. Shrubs, perennials, and annuals can't be planted to deep or to shallow. Try to keep mulch and soil from around the stems to allow for proper water drainage.

2. Mix perennials and annuals. Perennials will return year after year, at least for a few years after planting. Annuals will usually only last for one growing season. By mixing annuals in with the perennials you will be assured of always having flowers in bloom.

3. Deadhead your flowers. Deadheading is just what it sounds like. By clipping wilting or dead flower heads from the main plant you will encourage the growth of more flowers. Be sure to pick up any deadheads and put them in your compost pile. Leaving them in the garden can attract bugs or cause plant diseases to attack your healthy plants.

4. Learn about bugs. Most garden insects do more good than harm. Butterflies, beetles and bees are known pollinators. They fertilize plants through unintentional transfer of pollen from one plant to another. 80% of flowering plants rely on insects for survival.

Sowbugs and dung beetles together with fungi, bacteria and other microorganisms are necessary to help in the decomposition of dead plant material, thus enriching the soil and making more nutrients available to growing plants.

Other insects like lacewings and dragonflies are natural predators of those insects that do the real damage, like aphids.

Be sure to give your flower garden a shot of fertilizer every few weeks to keep the flowers blooming longer. It is important to not over fertilize because this can cause the plants to burn.

Following these few simple tips will get anyone novice started on their way to becoming a well rounded gardener. Building on these tips will keep you garden blooming and bringing great satisfaction all growing season long.

Secrets In Making Beautiful Flower Gardens

Flower gardens can grow wild or can be in a specified spot in your backyard, like a flower bed. You can mix and match flowers and have a different colors to improve your scenery. You can choose from annuals that will last a whole year, perennials plants that live more than 2 years, and biennials plants that take 2 years to complete their life cycle.

I would recommend you to plant a rose garden. There is something almost spiritual about rose gardens. From their heady fragrance to their delicate blooms, walking through a rose garden is a peaceful experience. Growing a rose garden isn't difficult, yet many gardeners complain that their roses are never as beautiful as they would like them to be. If you struggle to grow roses, follow these easy steps and your rose gardens will be the envy of your neighborhood.

1. How can you create a beautiful flower gardens filled with roses? Roses like to be fed. They should be fed consistently. The best way to feed your roses is to sit down in the winter with a calendar and write out a feeding schedule for your rose garden. Once you have established your feeding schedule, stick to it. It doesn't do your roses much good to feed them sporadically. Some people like to use a slow release fertilizer, but roses truly do best when a strong organic fertilizer is applied routinely.

Some great fertilizers for your rose gardens include composted fertilizer and blood meal. Roses love a high nitrogen feed, so if you make your own compost, make sure you put in lots of grass clippings to really add nitrogen to your soil.

2. Roses need about two inches of water a week. If you don't get that kind of rainwater in your area, it is vital to water them every few days. You can cut down on the amount of water you need to give them by hand if you are hard-working about mulching your roses. Mulching is a fantastic way to keep the roots of your roses from stressing. It is also great for weed control. Weeds compete with your roses for vital nutrients and water, so when you mulch your rose gardens, you help your roses get the most from the soil that surrounds them.

The best mulch you can use is grass clippings or compost that holds many nitrogen rich grass clippings. When you mulch with grass clippings you are helping feed the soil that will feed your roses.

3. It seems a mockery to cut back your roses, but in reality, when you trim your rose garden you are ensuring beautiful blooms for seasons to come. Always deadhead spent roses by cutting them back to their second set of leaves. This will allow for more blooms to come out in the current season.

Make sure that you give your roses a good pruning in the early part of spring. Cut away every piece of dead or diseased wood. Once you have removed the damaged wood, step back and shape your bush. Make sure you thin out the branches so that each one has room for air to circulate, keeping your roses free from mildew and rot.

You will need to decide if you want your flowers to grow wild in certain spots, like a pathway to a bench or the entrance to your home. You may even decide to pick a certain spot in your yard and decided to put little flower gardens there, like in front of your home for everyone to see. You can have fun experimenting with different plants and mixing a combination of annuals with perennials or vice versa and don't forget to mix in biennials plants.

All flowers have their own temperament and you want to be accommodating, otherwise you won't have much of a flower garden. Some flowers grow better in certain regions than others due to the soil and climate, so make sure to select the right flowers for your region. Also verify when it is the perfect time to plant your flower gardens so you can be prepared and ready to go when the time is right.

You may even employ a professional gardener to do the landscaping for you. The gardener should be able to tell you which flowers would suit your yard the best and allow you to pick your own arrangement for him/her to make your vision complete. You don't want to over clutter your yard or it could look more like a wild field than a flower garden. You should also consider the time that will be spent on maintaining your flower gardens, because you want it to look nice, not run down.

Marriage is Like a Beautiful Flower Garden

Think of your marriage as a beautiful and dazzling flower garden. In an acre of astounding floral beauty, you and your husband have planted azaleas, roses, chrysanthemums, daisies, carnations, violets, geraniums, and several more varieties of your favorite flowers.

Since this flower garden is very valuable to both of you, you nurture your flowers with the greatest of love, and you both toil with the duties and responsibilities given to you from when you first started the garden. You both work so very hard to make sure each flower is tended with the utmost care. This flowerbed is the most picturesque site to behold. Your friends and family all wish they had your flower garden.

People from all over town peak into your backyard to enjoy the beauty and aroma of your garden. One day while you are out shopping, a jealous stranger trespasses onto your property and digs up several plots of roses and azaleas, roots and all, and plants them in his own backyard.

This wicked act completely devastates the both of you and each blames the other for the attack to the flower garden. You began to scream and call each other names. You tell your husband to replant more flowers since it was his fault. He tells you to do the replanting because it is your fault. Weeks go by and neither you nor your husband have talked to each other since the flower garden attack.

One day, you cannot stand the dreadful silence around the house any longer, and you tell your husband that it really wasn't his fault. You kiss and make up, and decide to replant the flowers together. So the next day, you and your husband replant more flower seeds in the barren spots where the flowers were taken.

Everyday the two of you work with the soil so the flowers will come up just as beautiful as before. You water and feed the sprouts and even talk to them because you love them so much. But now you're both worried that more flowers will be taken or destroyed. The problem is you just don't feel like taking the time to protect your flowerbed – its just too much trouble out of your daily schedule to do anything about it, besides you really don't think it will happen again.

Days pass, and you forget the tragic episode.

Again, everyday without fail you and your husband give your flowers the tender loving care they so much need. You water, feed, and even talk to your breathtaking vegetation. You highly prize each and every flower and it shows in the intricate beauty and delicate care of each different variety.

After planting, caring, and tending your garden for several years, the same stranger becomes even more envious and trespasses again, this time bringing his three dogs with him. The dogs run wildly through your backyard and right into your flower garden, trampling all the dazzling plants to the ground.

Both of you are overcome with sadness and despair; your flower garden was your life! You built it up to be the most stunning specimen of a flower garden of its kind. You thought you had it well protected, after all, it was in your own backyard.

Your flower garden is what brought you peace and tranquility. You planted it with superior seeds, and cared for it every single day with great tenderness and love, and now it is destroyed! All destroyed! Your life is destroyed!

What did this husband and wife forget to do for their flower garden? What was the most important thing they could have done to protect their garden?
What about a fence? They didn't have a fence around it.

What would you do? Would you replant the beautiful flower garden that you built up and nurtured? What would be a wise thing to do for your flower garden? Build a tall fence around it so the enemies cannot trample in and take what they want?

It is the same way with marriage. What would you do? Would you let satan enter in and destroy the love and trust that you and your spouse worked so hard at building up through the years? Would you let strangers trespass and take what doesn't belong to them? What is the most important thing you can do for your marriage? Protect it! Build your marriage upon the rock so the enemies cannot come in and destroy it?

"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat up against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock." Matthew 7:24-25

Hanging Baskets Help You Create Beautiful Flower Displays in Your Home or Garden

Displaying flowers and plants in hanging baskets can be traced back to the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, considered one of the Seven Wonders of the World.

Even the Victorians adored their lovely hanging baskets. As people moved to North America, their love of flowers, and diverse cultures brought various ways to display them.

Hanging baskets are an attractive way to decorate porches and verandas with beautiful colors and different plants. Usually the kind of flowers you plant is based upon the position they are in. If they are in full or part sun, or shade, this determines the plants that can be grown.

Use your imagination and likes to decide what flowers to plant. You can go with all one color, mixed colors, and holiday themes. If you want, you can use all the same flowers or mix sizes and colors in your flower baskets, window boxes, and planter stands. If you are in a warm climate you can start your hanging baskets and planters early and enjoy them for many months.

Using Hanging Baskets

To make your house and garden attractive, try hanging baskets in other places besides the front porch. Use a shepherd's hook with a hanging basket beside your front steps or mailbox. Build an arbor and decorate it with hanging flowers. Frame your sidewalk, patio and entrances with colorful hanging baskets.

When you are ready to plant, decide what kind of planter you want. The sizes vary from 6 to 12 inches. Choose a size that is appropriate for the area where it will hang. When you have the container, then you are ready to put the moss in the pot. Sphagnum moss is used because it holds moisture and helps plants grow better. After the moss is moistened and fitted into the container, then you can add the potting soil and polymers. Potting soil by itself does not hold nutrients, so polymers need to be added periodically.

Hanging Baskets Require Minimal Care

Hanging pots are easy to take care of and come with an external saucer or an internal disk that holds water, which can be pulled into the plant. Just continue watering and fertilizing through the summer and you will be able to enjoy your beautiful plants the entire season. Hanging baskets do not take up a lot of room and are pleasing to look at, being at eye level.

With the Bloom Master hanging baskets, you do not need to use the moss. You buy the pots with growing holes and use potting mix with nutrients to help the plants grow faster and larger. These hanging baskets and box planters produce healthy beautiful plants in no time.

Plant Beautiful Flowers

When you have the pot prepared, place your flowers in and water them. Plant the largest flowers first and follow with the smaller ones and the fillers. Some popular flowers that are recommended for hanging baskets are petunias, impatiens, pansies, ferns, ivy, mums, coleus, fuchsias, and many others. Start planning your flower gardens now and enjoy a creative, beautiful growing season.

Get the Most out of Your Fresh Flowers!

There are few people that don't enjoy a gift of fresh flowers or the joy of arranging fresh flowers they have purchased for their home, but not many enjoy the inevitable – fresh flowers have a shelf life and won't last forever. Each flower variety has a different life expectancy once cut, and will have a window of time in which it will look its best. It can be sad to gather up a not-quite-fresh arrangement and head to the garbage can – so don't! Before your flowers wilt, try some of these easy projects, then replenish you home with more Ontario fresh flowers!

Dried Flowers
Once a practice reserved for the first bunch of roses given at the start of a budding romance, drying flowers is a great way to preserve the unique beauty of flowers. Dried flowers, roses and lavender in particular, lend themselves well to scented sachets for linen closets and winter-clothing trunks, as well as an additive to purchased pot pourri. Dried flowers can also be added to your holiday decorating; with a great wreath base you can switch the flowers seasonally for each occasion!

Pressed Flowers
An offshoot of the dried flower technique is the pressed flower. Usually done between the pages of heavy books, flower pressing is extremely easy and produces the flat effect required in many craft projects. Adding a pressed flower to home-made note cards is a special touch that is sure to be appreciated; when framed, they're a perfect home décor accent.

Edible Flowers
Depending on the flower variety, your favourite blooms can be used in a variety of gastronomic delights. Pansies and violets, in particular, stand up well to being preserved with sugar and added as decoration to cakes and tarts, while roses are often blended into batters for added flavour and texture. Add gardenia or gladiolus petals as a garnish for your summer salads for a light taste and extra visual interest.

Making Paper Flowers - Step By Step Instructions

If handmade decorations are a hobby of your, making paper flowers can be an interesting and fun pastime. This is not about extensive talent and knowledge and it is quite simple to create beautiful patters, by simply folding paper. Another great thing about this hobby is that it is not costly and you can make some really great decorations. Materials are not hard to find and they can be purchased at the local craft store near you.

Let's start with the materials. First, you need a pack of multi colored tissue paper, some green pipe cleaners, which are made from wire and a pair of scissors. If you do not have any pipe cleaners, try use wire. You can make it look more aesthetic, by covering the wire with green floral tape. Once you have the materials, you can go on and start working on your designs. Choose your favorite colors and use four or five sheets of paper to make your flowers.

First, make eight inch sheets of paper, by cutting the tissues with the scissors. When you make paper flower, you must be careful to keep the sheets layered. The paper should be folded in the shape of an accordion so it looks like a thin rectangle. When you have this form, use the scissors to cut a V shape on both sides. Afterwards, take the end of the pipe cleaner and twist it around the V shape. Keep the stem pointing down and pass a layer of tissue to the center and then the others, one by one. Make the same thing for the other side of the flower.

In order to give the flowers a more natural look, the layers must be fluffed, after they have been pulled up. You must do the same thing with all the squares of paper for more beautiful paper flowers. If you want your flower to look more realistic, use two pipe cleaners to strengthen the stem of the flower. You can make flowers of different sizes, by simply cutting bigger sheets of paper. Also, if you use more layers of paper, you can make your flowers look more rich in petals. Use your creativity to combine all kinds of flowers. Put together the colors that you feel that will look good and experiment to see what is coming out. As an advice, for a more uniform looking finish, go for colors that blend easily with each other. After your work is complete, use some spray starch to spray them. They will look firmer and this final touch will give them a professional look. The flowers sprayed with spray starch will last longer and they will not damage when touched.
